This child was something else! At the beginning of the shoot, I was giving her a few pointers on how to stand, and she looks right at me and says "I'm workin on it Kristin!" {It took me a while to regain my composure.} And work it she did! I just love how it's the perfect balance of childhood innocence and this bohemian type flare. Like my vast technical lingo?? I just know it photographs well! You can't buy this stuff off the racks at a store... you have to attend a trunk show. This mommy is a brand new rep for Matilda Jane and if you like what you see... you can log onto the website and they will direct you to her. There are only 100 reps in the entire USA!

Childhood Girlfriends- 2nd Generation

Not only have these girls been friends since birth... their mothers have been best friends since the 6th grade! They really could have been sisters. You could tell how comfortable they were being together and hanging out. Lots of posing, goofing off, hanging on one another and giggling! The great thing is that neither of them took themselves too seriously! Thanks for letting me pal around with you guys. I really enjoyed myself!

...cart before the horse? The whole point of this blog is to give my clients a sneak peek of their session. But I was too geared up about this shoot! I edited the photos in one day {which took a lot of coffee and a mildly obsessive personality}. I love urban shoots and funky kids/images. This shoot definitely fit the bill! These are some good friends of ours, and I wasn't sure with the kids if that would work to our advantage or not. They couldn't have rocked it any harder. We all had a great time stomping through the city! {I think Mr. R even enjoyed the shoot.} So here is your not so "sneak peek"...

So after an entire year of trying to coordinate our schedules, we finally made it happen! And I have to say that I am so glad we waited... because look at the adorable addition to their family! She was so serious and had this really perplexed look on her face. We were jumping through hoops and acting completely crazy in hopes of catching a fleeting smile, and she would just look back at us as if to say "You have GOT to be kidding." We quickly realized that Big Brother could get her to laugh by falling down or acting crazy. I like her sense of humor already!

These two brand new boys were hilarious! I had previously done their parents maternity shoot and got to know them a bit. Their dad (like a lot of dads) didn't really enjoy his pictures being taken. One of the twins SOOO had his personality! We continued to joke that while Dad wasn't here at the shoot, but his presence was felt. Little Man would be O...U...T, until the moment we were ready to shoot away, and he'd wake up, crack one eye open, or swipe the pacifier out of his brother's mouth!

Seriously, the boys did great. Don't they look like a litter of puppies in the basket? I LOVE their newborn wrinkles! No body fat at all... wish I could say the same! We decided to break the shoot up over the course of a few sessions so stay tuned for more to come...

I included a few of their maternity session that I never got posted on the blog (gasp). You may recognize them from the local community. They own SideKicks Family Martial Arts. They are completely amazing with the kids...check them out.

3 Ring Circus!

SOOOO let me first say that I know this family... so I get to tease them a bit! Forgive me Kim! :)

We had a dad, who was OH SO HAPPY to have his portraits done {already wanting to book a new shoot on Monday, I'm flattered}, a daughter who {hated} her dress, a son who was worried about his hair... but not too worried to stop clowning around. {He had me laughing a majority of the shoot... he's actually completely funny!} This all ended up looking like a three ring circus. And what does that yield??? A very bewildered mother!

This crew was quite the lively bunch. In a good way! I was entertained by their humor and razzing... but not nearly as much as their unorthodox Christmas songs! Tee he he... The resemblance to my own family is uncanny!

I actually posted this sneak peek to assure their mom that we did get our share of good shots! Enjoy your preview.

Gentlemen in the Making

This is one of my top priorities for my own son. I want him to be THAT boy that holds the door for girls. It is one of my favorite things to watch him do {especially when he remembers on his own}. I am a HUGE believer in "ladies first". I know this may not line up with today's beliefs and may be a bit old fashioned. I can't help it!

I watched these two children and *smiled* inside as I watched their nature play out in front of the camera. You could tell they were text book gentlemen! Good job {parental units}! Here is a sneak peek for you..

This couple gave each other a photo shoot for their 15th wedding anniversary! How darn sweet is that??? What a fantastic idea... this time in their lives... captured on film forever.

Their kids were so mild mannered and polite! It was a pleasure to work with them. (I should qualify that by saying... Miss "B" was most cooperative until I had the bright idea to have Dad splash her with water. She didn't really care for the salt in her eyes and I don' blame her!) So I really have a "thang" for baby teeth. And here is my baby with two loose teeth! Not just any loose teeth... but his first loose teeth! So what do I do???? I had a great time photographing this family. As you can see... this is a family with all {beautiful} girls. They were all so pleasant. In my own life, there are moments in time (okay, everyday) when I look at my girls and I think "OMG, all of this emotion... and this is without any hormones!" As I watched these young ladies, they were so enjoyable to be around! I am encouraged. I know their mom is probably rolling her eyes reading this! Isn't it so true that children in general give everyone else their best side? For us moms... we seem to get the brunt. While I know I don't see what happens behind the scenes, at the very least I can say that it is possible to get three older girls to behave in public! Enjoy your sneak peek!

Close To My Heart

Sooo... here is a little bit of my story. It is Mr. Jack who launched me into the world of photography. This little guy was born dangerously premature. His mom {one of my closest friends} still couldn't drive, so I took her to the hospital to visit him. It was then that I {insisted} on taking pictures of him in the ICU. The pictures include a shot of his fist... adjacent to his tiny newborn tag on his clothes. The tag was actually larger than his hand! Jack eventually made it home. Weeks later, I got a phone call from his mom that went something like "I don't care if you want to... your coming over and taking his pictures!" ~smile~ So we had a sheet, a camera and a baby... and somehow, the actual shots (amazingly) turned out to be incredible. Before the week was over, she had several friends calling me to book shoots! I quiet literally went out to buy a decent camera to photograph them.

So, pardon the one million pictures blogged below...this family is extremely close to my heart!

Could you just fall in {love} with these baby blues? Little man is so cute and so easy to work with. He truly makes my job a pleasure! We found this really cool old building on my trip back to Texas. I saw that it had a really great color of blue splashed on it and I knew it was a match made in heaven! Thanks for letting me photograph little man once again!

I tell you what... this was something else to watch play out! Miss "K" wasn't exactly into having her picture taken (initially). She wasn't comfortable doing an individual shot... or a family shot. About mid-way through I realized that she would do just about ANYTHING I asked if I would simply put her new baby sister in her arms! She adores that little girl. (Unlike my 10 and 8 year old girls that seem to fight non-stop!) All she wanted was to {kiss}, love and {dote} on her sister. I love the first image of her holding her hand. Mom... enjoy this moment (before you know it they will be fighting over clothes!) This really is a magical time :)

I LOVE this one... not sure why... I think it's because they look sooooo similar!

Would you look at this family? How beautiful are they? All so good looking, well spoken and polite! Mom and Dad, you should be proud. I have done two shoots for them now and gotten to know them a little bit. They are a military family and are moving to Japan this summer. While I am so sad to see them go, I'm completely grateful for their commitment to our country. Good luck with your new journey half way across the world!

Two boys...one, a senior in high school and one, in second grade. They were both so well mannered! These boys were a part of a military family (5 kids strong!) that has lived everywhere from America to Saudi Arabia to Japan! I guess they were use to rolling with things. I never even got the oh so typical, roll of the eyes. I mean... come on! They are boys! No boy ever says "I hope when I wake up this morning, I get to have my picture taken." So here is a shout out to mom (whoot!). Whatever you are doing... keep it up!

SOOOO here is the deal. It absolutely makes my day when I find a client that gives me the creative freedom to "do my thang". You know... one that says "I love what you do... so just do it!" I have been waiting for the right little one to try out these newly found locations. She was such a doll. Miss "N" has the most perfect disposition and an amazing wardrobe to go with it! How much better could it get? I love how these turned out! At one point she had fallen asleep in the car. We woke her up and stuck her in front of the blue loading dock door and she was STILL all smiles. (I know how ticked I'd be if someone did that to me!) So hats off to Little Miss. She was such a pleasure to work with...

You know that age where you aren't a kid anymore...but not a teenager yet?? These two were a pair of "tweens". They started out a little embarrassed (even as an adult, I hide when a camera turns my way). By the end of the shoot they had settled in, and felt a bit more comfortable. (I think!) I was thrilled looking through the shots to see that so many of them captured their interactions with one another. I even got one where they were doing a little trash talking! As much as they wanted the shoot to be done and over, they never gave me a moment of trouble. They were completely patient and sweet to me! (Hats off to their mom!) Enjoy your preview!

Teens to Tots

This shoot was a trip and a half! I am so use to playing to kids that are all in the same age range. As you can see from the portraits below... there is quite an age gap. Miss D is five whole years old (and a firecracker), and big sister is 16 with the lone boy being 15 years old. It was REALLY hard to maintain the cool factor when I was busy losing every ounce of dignity I had, jumping through hoops for half-pint! With all of that being said, it was clear to see how much they adored their baby sister. I had a blast stomping through the city with this bunch. Enjoy your sneak peak Mom!

Sweet Girl and Florida Oranges!

Here are just a few shots we took over Easter weekend. We have lived in Florida since August and I just now had the idea to shoot in the orange groves! (Maybe too much Tylenol PM??) Most of the oranges had already been picked clean but we were able to find a few rows that still had fruit on them! If I get a good response, I plan to book special sessions next year when the fruit is ripe.

Now to the stuff that really matters! Isn't this the CUTEST darn 19th month old ever? She is quite the chatterbox and has the funniest since of humor. I completely enjoyed my time with K.J. (Did I mention she is my {only} niece?? Ignore the bias!)

Brotherly Love

Two sweet, alive and full of life little boys! Watching their brotherly interactions was hysterical (I'm not so sure their bewildered mother would agree with me!) There is such a fine line with boys. One minute they are affectionately picking on one another and before you can blink, the tides have turned dark and one is mad at the other. I learned that brothers aren't so different than the sisters who reside at my house! I had a great time watching the boys together and here is a sneak peek for you mom... guaranteed to make you smile ;)

Photographing new ones has it's own built in challenges. Every now and then I find a client that is a bit over whelmed bringing their newborn out into the big, open world. I included this shot to show you that most baby rooms have a lot to offer when it comes to portraits. (It did help that this little one has a rocking nursery! *Go Mom*) I stopped doing studio work about a year ago, but I haven't necessarily stopped shooting indoors. With a little shuffling of the furniture and an ever so patient baby (and photographer) it can all gel together.

Collage Craze

Here are a few samples for you to reference for collages. They are printed as a 20x20 inch or a 30x30 inch canvas gallery wrap. That means when you take them out of the box, you need no frame to hang them. They are ready to go right on your wall. The image or canvas wraps all the way around the side.

The 20x20 is 250.00 and the 30x30 is 350.00.

These are my girl friend's two kiddos. Initially they were a little uncomfortable having their pictures taken even though they knew me quite well. I gave them an enormous lollipop and let them just do their thing. All of the sudden the most unexpected sound "escaped" from Mr. R. (Come on...use your imagination!) The reaction you see is the end result! I thought his sister was going to die. Hey... I'll take what I can get to get that kind of emotion on a kid's face! Melissa- I hope you can forgive me for divulging the details on the world wide web!!! Some stories are too good to pass up. ;)
